A Easy-On Sock Aid is a simple yet incredibly effective assistive device designed to help individuals put on socks without needing to bend over excessively, reach their feet, or have significant flexibility.
How a Sock Aid Works:
Most sock aids consist of a rigid or semi-rigid trough-like frame (often plastic or flexible plastic) with a long handle or straps. Here's a general breakdown of how they are used:
1. Prepare the sock:
The sock is stretched over the contoured trough of the sock aid. The top opening of the sock is pulled over the wide end of the trough, and the foot part of the sock slides down into the trough.
The aim is to load the sock onto the aid so that it's open and ready to receive the foot.
2. Position the aid:
The sock aid, with the sock loaded, is then lowered to the floor in front of the user's foot using the long handle(s) or straps.
The user typically sits down for stability (e.g., on a chair, bed, or wheelchair).
3. Insert the foot:
The user slides their foot into the opening of the sock that is now held open by the aid. As the foot goes in, it pushes the sock off the end of the aid.
4. Pull up the sock:
Once the foot is fully in the sock (or mostly in), the user pulls on the long handle(s) or straps of the sock aid. This action pulls the sock up the leg and off the sock aid.
